Getting it Together: Developing a whole school drug education plan

The workshop is for Principals, Deputy Principals and those in a leadership role within the school. This is not a curriculum-focused workshop.

Having a Whole School Drug Education Plan that focuses on classroom-based drug education and on procedures for responding to student drug use is supportive of staff as well as students.

This full-day course provides participants with the opportunity to:

  • unpack the Getting it Together resource to understand how to build a Whole School Drug Education Plan (described in the resource as School Drug Education Guidelines)
  • work with the Action Plans in the resource to begin development of a Whole School Drug Education Plan
  • develop Procedures for Incident Management and Intervention Support to ensure a consistent response within the plan to address concerns around student drug use
  • discuss the way in which Whole School Drug Education Plans can improve the school environment and enhance staff and student wellbeing.

It is useful if this workshop is attended by at least two staff members from each school. This allows good collaboration relevant to participant’s own school context when working to build the plan in the afternoon session.

For Department of Education Schools, this workshop will guide you through development of your Whole School Drug Education Plan as consistent with requirements outlined in the Student Behaviour Policy and Procedures.

The course is free. Certificates of participation will be issued on completion of the workshop.


Participation expectations

It is recommended that at least two staff members from each school attend this workshop.

Staff in a leadership role, who are seeking to develop whole school drug education plans, will find this workshop useful.

Length of workshop

The workshop commences at 8.30am and concludes at 3:00pm.
