Road Safety Education Guidelines for Schools
The workshop supports those working with Kindergarten to Year 12 students. This is not a curriculum-focused workshop.
This full-day course provides participants with the opportunity to:
- enhance awareness of road safety issues for children and young people
- explore the Principles of School Road Safety Education that are the foundation for an effective whole school approach to road safety education
- consider how school road safety education guidelines can be developed in their school.
The course is free. Certificates of participation will be issued on completion of the workshop.
It is recommended that at least two staff members from each school attend this workshop.
Eligibility to enrol
To register for this workshop, attendance at either a Safer Kids or Keys for Life workshop conducted by SDERA is required.
“When one of our students was nearly killed while crossing the road near the school, we decided it was time to look at what we could do to educate our students, educate parents and assess the traffic environment. This workshop did all of that and the resource has everything we need to start the process with support from the SDERA consultants.”
“We had been running road safety in our health programs using the Challenges and Choices resources which was a great start to our whole school approach. The staff then agreed that we needed to look at developing guidelines so we sent two of our staff along to the workshop. They came back with samples of School Drug Education Guidelines which we used to start developing our own."
Length of workshop
The workshop commences at 8:30am and concludes at 3:00pm.
