Drug use can be complex and the issues and consequences that surround it can be confusing and may seem difficult to manage.  This means that it is important to know where to seek help so that you can access the support that you need.

The Mental Health Commission

The Mental Health Commission is responsible for the network of drug and alcohol treatment services and programs formerly provided by the Drug and Alcohol Office.  Confidential helplines are available for anyone concerned about their own or another person's alcohol or drug use.

Drug Aware

The Drug Aware website provides factual, credible and accurate drug information for young people in order to help them make informed decisions. It also provides a live chat service where you can chat confidentially with a professional alcohol and drug councillor online.

  • Strong Spirit Strong Mind Aboriginal Programs has a key role in the development of knowledge and skills within the Alcohol and Drug (AOD), mental health and broader human services sector to work in culturally secure ways through workforce development initiatives and to contribute to a skilled Aboriginal workforce. 

  • Alcohol and other drug resources in different languages are available on the Mental Health Commission website.

  • The Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention oversees Suicide Prevention 2020: Together we can save lives. Supporting someone who is suicidal to access support services is important, and the Mental Health Commission  outlines a number of services available to help.

  • The Other Talk website is a resource aimed primarily at parents wanting to learn about alcohol and other drugs to protect their children from associated harms. The information and resources available on the website may assist and support parents, teachers, schools and students as the messages are valuable, credible and strategy-based.

  • The Hello Sunday Morning mobile app that aims to help change Australia’s drinking culture, particularly for young Australians. The app “helps you set simple, achievable weekly challenges to help reset your drinking habits".
